To determine the criteria of the world’s largest pyramid, then taken the calculated volume based on the size and height of the pyramid. So with this formula should not be too difficult to determine the largest pyramid in the world. But in fact, the calculation is done not as easy as it seems. Because, some of the pyramid has sides that are not flat like that found in terraced pyramid. In addition, some of the largest pyramid in the world is still not fully excavated. Because of this, the following list does not show definite volume of a pyramid, but just a close estimate of the actual volume.
1. He Vedanta, El Mirador (0.9 million m³)
El Mirador is a Mayan city that developed around the 6th century BC, and reached its peak population with a population of 8,000 people between the 3rd century BC and 1st century AD After a hiatus from the construction of a new structure for several centuries, further construction is done until the city finally abandoned at the end of the 9th century AD The ruins of this city had found back in 1926 but has received little attention because of its remote location deep in the jungle of Guatemala. Today the site is still covered by tropical forests and the two largest structures in El Mirador, which is complex “El Tigre” and complex “La Vedanta”, giving the impression like two big hills. La Vedanta complex consists of a number of structures that stood on top of each other. Its basic structure has a length of 310 x 590 meters and 7 meters high and supports a series of buildings on it. The next building measuring about 190 x 240 meters and as high as 7 meters. On it there are other buildings as high as 21 meters, which is terminated by three pyramids, the tallest is 21 meters. With a total height of 70 meters, Complex La Vedanta seems to be higher than El Tigre Complex (approximately 55 feet high)
2. Pyramid of the Sun (1.2 million m³)
Pyramid of the Sun is the largest building in Teotihuacán and one of the largest pyramid in Mesoamerica. His name itself comes from the Aztecs, who visited this city many centuries after the city was abandoned. This pyramid was built in two phases. The first construction phase, in about the year 100 AD to build a pyramid-sized almost like it is today. After the second phase construction is completed, this pyramid has sides each 225 meters long and 75 meters high.
3. Bent Pyramid (1237 million m³)
Bent Pyramid located at Dahshur is the second pyramid built by Pharaoh Sneferu. Mysteriously, this pyramid that starts with a 55 degree angle from the bottom of the desert and then suddenly turned to an angle 43 degrees. One theory states that because of the steepness of the initial angle, the load to be added in the upper chamber and passageways inside the pyramid becomes too large, thus forcing their makers to adopt a more shallow angle. This pyramid has each side along the 188.6 meters and 101.1 meters high.
4. Red Pyramid (1.69 million m³)
Built by Pharaoh Sneferu, too, the Red Pyramid is the world’s first successful attempt to build a true pyramid (not a multilevel pyramid). Pyramid is sized 220 x 220 meters and 104 meters tall. This pyramid is the largest pyramid in Egypt until the construction of the pyramids in Giza began. What really makes it unique is the Red Pyramid interior access relatively irregular contained in it, unlike other pyramid found in Egypt.
